Director of Music
First Presbyterian Church, Morehead City, NC
First Presbyterian Church of Morehead City (FPC), a member of PC(USA) and located on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, seeks a part-time Director of Music. FPC has a membership of approximately 300 and conducts two services, one contemporary (“@1604”), held in the church’s Westminster Hall, and one traditional, held in the church’s sanctuary. The Director of Music would lead the musical programs associated with its traditional service. Specifically, the Director of Music would have the following responsibilities:
• In conjunction with the Pastor, plan, coordinate, and schedule appropriate musical selections for traditional services of worship and special services such as memorials, weddings, church holidays, or special events.
• Schedule and conduct choir rehearsals and direct choirs at services of worship.
• Plan, provide for, and/or play appropriate musical accompaniment for services of worship.
• Recruit and integrate new members into the musical programs.
• Organize other musical programs as interest is expressed.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead special music programs, trips, retreats, and community concerts.
• Seek and provide a variety of other musical instrumentation as budget allows.
• Foster a caring community of faith among those participating in the church’s music ministry.
• Attend staff meetings as directed.
• Any other tasks as assigned by the pastor.
A degree in the field of sacred music, music education, ministry of music, or comparable professional experience is preferred but not required. Must possess the skill to direct choirs and to play the following instruments:
• Visser-Rowland Associates pipe organ (Opus 71, 1985). The organ has three full manuals, a full pedal board, and numerous stops and settings.
• Yamaha grand piano.
• Yamaha clavinova.
Must have organizational skills and display Christian attributes of faith and character in both professional and personal life.

Summary: Part-time (8-10 hours per week) salaried position as part of the Traditional Worship Arts ministry team. The person in this role would serve as principal organist and choral accompanist for Chancel Choir, but will play additional organ/piano music as needed in cooperation with the Director of Traditional Worship Arts.
Primary responsibilities include accompanying Chancel Choir for weekly and special rehearsals, providing choral accompaniment and organ/piano service music at 11:00 A.M. Traditional Worship Sunday services, and assisting in worship planning and other duties at the discretion of the Director.
Salary: $21,000-$24,000 annually, depending on experience.

Organist/pianist for 10:00am Sunday services and occasional special services at Christmas and during Lent.
Sunday requirements: prelude of 2-3 minutes, 3 hymns, short offertory, and quiet music during communion.
Organ is a very small Zimmer pipe organ built in 1970.

The Chorale rehearses a few evenings per month (and we have used Saturday mornings, as well). Concerts have been on Friday evenings, but occasionally on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.
The Chorale secures soloists and orchestra members as needed for performances.
