Organist and Choir Director (Part-Time)
St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Sanford, NC
We are hiring a part-time Organist and Choir Director to help lead and shape the musical life of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. We are a vibrant, multi-generational church in Sanford, NC committed to creating a space where all are welcomed, known, and invited to delight in the love of God.

Music is a vital and beloved part of our church life. Our choir is a source of meaningful community and beauty that enriches our worship each week. We are looking for someone to build on the strong foundation of this program, bringing both faithful continuity and creative vision to its future.
The organ at St. Thomas’ is a Schantz organ that was installed in 1998-1999. The organ has 2 manuals, for a total of 61 notes, along with 32 notes on the pedals. The organ has 17 ranks of pipes, for a total of 1061 pipes. The organ was last tuned on January 19, 2026, by Lincoln Pipe Organs. A recent substitute organist described the organ as “easy to play.” There is also a piano available in the sanctuary.
The position averages 4 hours per week on site, along with practice and planning as needed, with additional time required during major liturgical seasons (e.g., Holy Week, Christmas, etc.). Besides Sunday mornings, this position is very flexible. Coordinating with clergy and staff can be done asynchronously, working around candidates' other jobs and responsibilities. This position reports to the rector and collaborates closely with church staff and lay leaders.
Responsibilities
Music Planning & Worship Leadership
● Plan music for weekly Sunday services, including hymns, choir anthem, prelude, postlude, and occasional special music, collaborating with clergy and staff to select music appropriate for the liturgical season
● Lead Sunday morning choir rehearsals at 9:00am
● Play the organ for the 10:00am Sunday service and lead the choir from the organ
● Preferred availability for major holy days (Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.)
● First right of refusal for playing at funerals and weddings (with additional honoraria)
Choir Leadership & Program Development
● Recruit, welcome, and support choir members and volunteer musicians, fostering both musical growth and a strong sense of belonging within the choir and encouraging participation from people of all ages and musical backgrounds
● Coordinate maintenance and repair of musical instruments
● Work with the Worship Ministry Committee to develop and manage an annual music budget.
Qualifications
● Experience as an organist and/or choir director, preferably in a church or similar setting
● Ability to lead a choir of varying skill levels with clarity, encouragement, and care
● Strong teaching skills and comfort working with volunteer musicians
● Collaborative spirit and clear communication skills
● Familiarity with sacred music, especially within the Anglican/Episcopal tradition
● Ability to lead rehearsals that are both efficient and engaging
● Familiarity with liturgy and service planning (preferred but not required)
Compensation: This is a part-time position with 4 Sundays off per year and an annual salary range of $13,000–$17,000, commensurate with experience. Additional compensation for weddings and funerals.

The organ is a 35-rank, three-manual Mohler, built in 1947. The console was rebuilt about twenty-five years ago. It has been consistently maintained.
The primary duty is playing for Sunday services. Besides the prelude and postlude, the organist would generally play three hymns and a response after the benediction.
At present, the choir is small and sings two or three times a month but directing the choir at this time would not be a required duty. We could discuss that aspect of the position with an applicant who is interested. The only hours that are needed for an organist who is not directing the choir are 9:30 AM until about noon on Sundays.
At present, we give substitute organists an honorarium of $150 per Sunday and pay for travel expenses, should he or she live some distance from Danville. That amount can be adjusted with the approval of the Finance Committee.

Music is an integral part of our worship service at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church (OSLC). OSLC is searching for a passionate musician to accompany our congregation in worship. This is a part-time role averaging 8-10 hours per week. This position will report to Church Council and the Pastor.
The qualified musician will be expected to play our pipe organ (1970 Zimmer Pipe Organ - 2 Manual) and piano (Story and Clark - Upright Piano).
Responsibilities:
- Provide organ and piano music for the accompaniment of:
Worship and congregational singing during Sunday morning services
Special services, such as during Lent, Easter and Christmas, and WELCA gatherings
- Arrange for other musicians to play or sing for church services or special occasions
- Select music that is related to the theme of the service and season and familiar to the congregation (resources are available to help with this).
- Teach new selections to the congregation
- Collaborate with the Pastor in planning the worship services and music selection
- Be proactive in suggesting new settings, music, ways of incorporating music into worship
- Secure substitute organist as necessary, in collaboration with Pastor
- Lead small adult choir, including rehearsals
- Preview bulletin for completeness and accuracy
Education, Skills and Qualifications
- Experience as a church musician (preferred)
- Skilled at playing piano keyboards (some organ experience preferred)
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment through collaborative engagement with Pastor, choir and lay people - - -
- Knowledge and understanding of Lutheran services and music is preferred
- Experience in directing a choir
- Strong organizational, leadership, people and communication skills
Salary is negotiable based on experience.

Part-Time Music Director

Parkway United Church of Christ is seeking an experienced individual who is capable of leading the music ministry of Parkway United Church of Christ in collaboration with the Senior Minister.

Organist
First Baptist Church, Danville, VA
First Baptist Danville, VA is seeking an organist for their services.
The organ is a 35-rank, three-manual Mohler, built in 1947. The console was rebuilt about twenty-five years ago. It has been consistently maintained.
The primary duty is playing for Sunday services. Besides the prelude and postlude, the organist would generally play three hymns and a response after the benediction.
At present, the choir is small and sings two or three times a month but directing the choir at this time would not be a required duty. We could discuss that aspect of the position with an applicant who is interested. The only hours that are needed for an organist who is not directing the choir are 9:30 AM until about noon on Sundays.
At present, we give substitute organists an honorarium of $150 per Sunday and pay for travel expenses, should he or she live some distance from Danville. That amount can be adjusted with the approval of the Finance Committee.
