Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza
The Piedmont NC Chapter of the AGO is sponsoring a workshop for piano students, elementary through high school. Participants will learn about the organ, its history, repertoire, and mechanical aspects. Students will have opportunity to explore the inner-workings of the organ and to sit at the console and try out piano pieces they already play. Some students may choose to participate in an informal recital at the end of the day.
Leading the class are Dreama Lovitt, organist at West Market Street United Methodist Church, Greensboro, Paula Owens, Organist at Kernersville Moravian Church, and Dr. Timothy Olsen, Kenan Professor of Organ at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Associate Professor of Organ at Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Students will work with these teachers in small groups and individually during the course of the event.
All levels of experience are welcome, beginning through advanced students. The event is free and lunch is provided.
Prospective students may register online.
